Relationship between Earthquake-Induced Hydrologic Changes and Faults

Hydraulic properties of fault zones are important to understanding the pore pressure development and stability. In this work, we examined relationship between water level changes caused by 2008 Wenchuan Mw 7.9 earthquake faults using four wells with same lithology around Three Gorges Dam, China. Two penetrating damage recorded sustained changes, while other two that not any transient changes. The phase shift tidal factor calculated from level, a proxy permeability storage coefficient, revealed both coefficient changed in zones, zone did show change coefficient. Thus, tentatively suggest may play an controlling role on earthquake-induced hydrologic because detrital or clogging components fractures be more easily removed seismic waves.
